Mittens Looks Around

*As Mittens* I walk into the clearing. I lay down on the soft grass and inhale the scent of the air. I'm not having kittens, but I want to see the place before hand. I lay down for a (hopefully) uninterrupted sleep.

*A month later.* I come back and sigh, my stomach round. I go to a private area and lay down, giving off a low yowl.

*As Pheonix* Hearing you I bolt towards you and stop when I am by your side, "Mittens!" I cry.

I hiss at you suddenly. "Leave me alone!" I cry. "I'll be fine. Just go!" I growl. My hair puffs up and my back arches.

Looking surprised I stumble back, speechless.

"Sorry." I say, still arched. "But I am having my kittens, and I need to be alone!" I say. I then hiss again, but I don't mean to.

"Ok, if you are sure..." I say a bit unsurely.

I hiss again and then disappear underneath a bush.

Standing in my spot I perk my ears to where you disappeared.

You hear a lot of rustling in the bush, but no noise.

Feeling nervous, I take some small steps forward.

You come into the bush and see me with newborn kittens. I am cleaning one. There are six kittens, and they are nursing and mewing. I see you and my ears go flat against my skull. "Back!" I cry, hissing.

I take one small step back, but still stay.

I eye you wearily. "Take a step back." I hiss. When you do, I relax. "You can look, but don't get any closer."

Standing in my place I crane my neck to get a better look at out kittens, "So beautiful." I sigh.

"Yes." I say stiffly. I continue licking one, still watching you.

Pricking my ears I study each kitten closely from the spot I stand.

I smile, a little more relaxed. "Only one looks like me. The rest look like you!" I say.

"They can grow up to look different," I say thoughtfully.

"I don't care how they look, and besides, their eyes may change, but their fur will look pretty much the same!" I say happily.

"No matter what they will all be perfect." I say sweetly.

I smile wanly. "Pheonix, can you hunt for me?"

"Sure." I turn and walk off to look for prey.

I smile, and then watch my kittens.

Coming back with a rabbit and some mice I drop them in front of you, taking one small mouse for myself.
